block reflection

After months of spending preparing to teach our unit I can not believe we only have six days left! I am so excited to finish teaching my unit.  I think it has gone really well and the students seem to be learning so much.

inspirational quotes

"Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way."---George Evans

I found this quote on pinterest.  I thought this was such a great statement!  I think the education system puts to much pressure on test scores.  I think they are very important when you need to know an overall census of where the students are at.  However I think the teacher is able to see this by simply observing her students.

Also I believe teachers have stopped trying to teach the students how to correctly act in public.  The teacher believes that it is not her responsibility.  The student is with the teacher throughout most of the day.  This time could be used to teach students respect, manners, and basic etiquette.

positivity

I have been considering teachers as well as my attitude in the classroom.  I feel a major problem in the school is that teachers have such a negative attitude.  I believe this reflects onto the students and they become negative as well.  If teachers were better supported as well as kept a positive attitude I think we would see an improvement in student's grades as well as attitudes.

social studies in the classroom

My teacher is very good at incorporating different subject into her lesson plans.  This week the students have been working on paintings.  They have been studying how the artist painted as well as where they were from and there background.  I think this is an easy way to incorporate art and all subjects into the class.

safety in the school

Today my school had a brief lock down drill.  This drill was brought on due to the events that have been happening in the past few weeks.  I think this was so helpful to the students because many did not know what we were doing.  The students were scared and did not respond well to the drill until after we explained why the drill was needed.  I think it is so important for the students to be aware of what is happening around the world.  The children pick up on stress from the teachers so they should be informed and educated on what is happening.

first week in the school.

The first week in the school went so great!!!!  I was excited to see so many maps in my classroom.  I usually work with a small group that meets in the hall.  The teacher has a rug that has a map on it.  There has been many times that we have used the rug as a tool to teach.  I think having these tools throughout your classroom allows you to create more spontaneous opportunities to use these.

Great app for common core

Jessie introduced me to an awesome app today. I know some of you have either an I phone or an I pad so I thought it would be useful to you!  When you go to your app store just search common core.  The picture for it is a green and has core written at the bottom.  This app allows you to choose what subject, then choose the grade, then the standards are listed.  This is basically a super simplified version of the website!!!  I know this wont help us in our social studies lessons, but I thought it was a great resource to have and hopefully soon we will be able to have the social studies on there too!!
